Miley Cyrus isn’t my favorite singer but I really like this song. It speaks truth. Sometimes we lose our focus. We can get so caught up in laying hold of the prize that we forget to enjoy the process of getting there.
Heaven certainly is the hope for every Christian but it’s in the climb that relationship with God is forged and deepened. It’s only in our weakness that we learn to rely on God’s strength. It’s in the midst of life’s struggles that faith is tested and grown.
I can only speak for myself here. I don’t know your personal struggles or pain but I have learned that joy and peace can be found even in the midst of intense heartache. We don’t have to climb our mountains alone. Our hope isn’t eternal life some day. It’s about eternal life, in Jesus Christ, right now. It’s about a restored relationship with God today. It’s a grand awakening to the truth that we no longer have to carry our burdens alone. Jesus, our Emmanuel, is forever with us. Whatever mountains come before us, we can trust Jesus to get us to the other side, one step of faith at a time. It’s the enduring love of our Savior that allows us to enjoy the climb.
“Ain’t about how fast I get there
Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side
It’s the climb”
